Main Objectives of the EXPERTS - SUSTAIN Project:

EXPERTS - SUSTAIN is a European funded Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Project which began in 2014 and will close in 2018. This project intends to finance 172 mobilities between Europe and South/South-East Asia for academic and professional purposes.

The EXPERTS – SUSTAIN Project guarantees the continuation of cooperation in the already well-established EU-SSEA partnership (covering 12 SSEA and 7 EU countries - 13 SSEA & 7 EU HEIs) and is fully committed to improving good practices implemented in previous EXPERTS projects in order to address sustainability via bilateral agreements, other national funding structures, and Erasmus+, amongst other things. Likewise, the improvement of mobilities between EU and SSEA, and the promotion of intercultural understanding through cooperation, are a key feature and priority of the EXPERTS – SUSTAIN project and is strongly supported by its individual members.

The project benefits from numerous multifaceted activities including consortium meetings in order to ensure efficient management and monitoring (general/financial) and to plan activities. The working groups of EU and SSEA partners equally plan to further investigate the quality assurance and sustainability of the project, and to explore ways to further strengthen the partnership and ensure credit transfer and academic recognition in the relevant countries. BA and MA curricula in the priority fields are modularised in line with the Bologna Process, and the courses are awarded with credits in accordance with the ECTS.

The EXPERTS – SUSTAIN Project further aims to increase the employability of university graduates through structured mobility and internships. The university business dialogue will, at the same time, contribute to the transfer of knowledge towards the society, and the growth of the economy. There will be 183 mobility flows (respecting specific country thematic needs in the SSEA region) - 74% for SSEA citizens and 73% allocated to TG1. 53% of the total mobilities are focused on sustainable cooperation through PhD, Post-Doc and Staff outflows. The mobility of researchers, teachers and administrative staff contributes to the exchange of experiences concerning educational methods and practices, innovations, business, quality assurance, and the development of further joint activities, such as joint research projects. 50% of the staff mobilities are for academics and 50% for personnel in charge of internationalisation processes, institutional building, and enterprise cooperation at the respective universities. The project will deploy a transparent dissemination process through various communication tools to all non-academic stakeholders (universities, embassies, ministries, NGO’s, enterprises, social organisations).

Ultimately, the project aims to bring young people from both EU and SSEA countries closer together by offering opportunities to study abroad in a two-way mobility framework that aims to foster the values advocated by this Erasmus Mundus Action 2 project.
